    Kantorow était vraiment impressionnant de maîtrise quand il jouait des caprices en concert (ce qui est bien différent d´un CD sur le plan difficulté technique!)

    Comme je parcours avec ardeur, ces jours-ci, les secteurs les moins fréquentés de ma collection (), j'ai été ravi d'y retrouver les deux disques mentionnés ci-dessus par Marcelo. C'est sur les conseils d'un ami guitariste que je les avais achetés.



    Ces trente-sept Sonates ne sont sans doute pas les plus immortels chefs-d'oeuvre jamais composés pour la guitare, mais elles n'en sont pas moins riches en jolies tournures et fort agréables à entendre.

    Et leur interprète, Frédéric Zigante, dont je possède aussi une bonne intégrale de l'oeuvre pour guitare seule de Villa-Lobos (un CD entegistré en 1995 pour le label Stradivarius), y fait preuve de beaucoup de talent .

    Voici dix jours, je parlais au téléphone avec un ami vivant à Winnipeg et originaire, comme James Ehnes, de la ville de Brandon (Manitoba, Canada). C'est avant tout de musique qu'il était question, et la conversation s'est rapidement portée sur ce remarquable violoniste dont les Manitobains sont aujourd'hui très fiers (un peu comme l'étaient les Ontariens à l'égard de Glenn Gould). C'est d'autant plus le cas qu'Ehnes se distingue aussi par une exceptionnelle modestie, une humilité et une gentillesse qui forcent l'admiration.

    Comme j'avais commandé quelques jours auparavant le second enregistrement par James Ehnes des Vingt-quatre Caprices de Paganini, j'ai donné connaissance à cet ami canadien, qui bien sûr en fut enchanté (), de ce qu'avait écrit à ce sujet Jean-Michel Molkhou dans le numéro de janvier 2010 de la revue Diapason :

    "C'est par sa première intégrale des Caprices que nous avions découvert le prodigieux talent de James Ehnes (...). Sur les traces de quelques violonistes qui les ont enregistrés une seconde fois (Ricci, Accardo, Zehetmair), il renouvelle l'exploit et confirme les prédictions d'Erick Friedman, éminent élève d'Heifetz : «Il en naît un comme lui seulement tous les cent ans». Si sa première version nous avait impressionnés par sa vertigineuse aisance et son impétuosité, celle-ci gravit encore un échelon dans la quête de la perfection. Perfection d'intonation (justesse absolue des octaves et des dixièmes) comme d'articulation (égalité irréprochable des trilles comme du staccato, netteté des pizzicatos de main gauche) suscitent la même admiration que la version désormais légendaire de Michael Rabin (1958). D'ailleurs sa puissance, quel que soit le registre, comme la générosité de sa sonorité évoquent souvent ce dernier. Avec le temps, Ehnes a modelé sa conception, affiné son goût. Sans prendre les risques esthétiques du très audacieux Zehetmair (...), il réalise ici ce qu'on peut imaginer de mieux en terme de respect du texte. Puisant dans les ressources infinies du somptueux Stradivarius «Le Marsick» de 1715 mis à sa disposition par la Collection Fulton, il déploie une gamme de timbres incroyable de volupté, de transparence, de variété. Malgré le choc provoqué récemment par l'inspiration visionnaire de Zehetmair, on reste pétrifié devant cette proposition certes plus classique, et surtout par un tel niveau de réalisation."

    J'ai maintenant reçu ce disque,



    ... et le moins que je puisse dire c'est que je ne regrette pas mon achat .

    Décidément, les 24 Caprices de Nicolo sont très à la mode, d'autant plus que chez Ehnes, c'est déjà sa deuxième mouture au CD, et que Teddi nous en donne deux d'un coup !

    elle est rop forte ; dans la première vidéo, elle change six fois de tenue sans qu'on ait le temps de le voir ; elle enlève même un brin de mèche cédé de son archet à 4'06'', sans qu'on la voit faire !

    (cela fait tout de même un peu préfabriqué je trouve, un montage de ce type)

    Je me demande si avec tout ce qui est sorti en caprices de Nicolo ces derniers temps, si cette sortie est vraiment une bonne idée ? (C'est incroyable comme les nouveaux répertoires contemporains semblent faire peur aux artistes comme aux labels ! )

    A la 2ème vidéo, OK pour le son, mais pour l'image j'ai des tas de petits pavés numériques, sauf si je fait des arrêts sur image ! C'est bizarre, je n'ai pas encore eu ça sur Youtube !

    J'aime son interprétation du 2ème caprice ci-dessous (même si elle le joue comme une sonate ou partita de Bach) :

    Ca n'en est pas une mauvaise, je pense. Les 24 amusettes de Niccolo sont à leur temps, et toutes choses égales par ailleurs, ce que sont les 6 autres amusettes de Jean-Seb au leur.
    Tout violoniste ne peut pas ne pas ne pas avoir envie de se frotter à cela. Et aussi ne pas avoir envie d'y laisser sa trace.
    Ensuite, que ce soit réussi ou pas, c'est une autre affaire, et affaire de goût personnel de qui écoute.
    Ce qu'on entend de Miss Fischer sur les extraits ci-dessus ne semble pas mal, mais il faut considérer et caprice par caprice, et l'ensemble.

    Je viens d'écouter Julia Fischer dans les 24 caprices. Encore une version de très haut niveau. Au niveau de la netteté des traits, elle est dominée par James Ehnes II, où l'archet rebondit plus chez ce dernier. Julia est plus légato (la prise de son est aussi moins proche que chez Ehnes). Sa principale préoccupation est que cela chante. Elle joue aussi plus sur la couleur entre les passages. Chez l'un ou chez l'autre on ne sent pas la moindre difficulté technique (chez Zehetmair si, mais ses caprices ont beaucoup de personnalité et j'aime aussi beaucoup) mais Ehnes est plus virtuose.

    Pour ma part,je trouve que le petit 45 tours Philips enregistré jadis par Francescatti est un véritable trésor capable de faire passer le frisson paganinien.
    Ce qui fait l'intérêt des interprétations de Markov et Ricci c'est qu'ils font partie des rares concertistes à avoir joué l'intégralité des 24 caprices dans le même concert.J'ai assisté à l'un des concerts de Ricci,c'était assez fabuleux.Il avait un staccato "tiré" fantastique aussi rapide que le "poussé".Mais surtout il y avait cet engagement et cet humour qu'il savait traduire dans les tierces dites en éclat de rire du caprice n°XIII par ex.
    Je ne pense pas que l'interprétation de Julia Fisher ajoute quoi que soit aux multiples éditions précédentes.C'est du beau violon,c'est propre ,le son est beau mais...si on ferme les yeux,sommes - nous plongés dans l'univers paganinien de 1830 ?
    J'attends avec impatience une version de Viktoria Mullova qui risquerait d'amener un sang neuf dans Paganini comme sa version des sonates et partitas a renouvelé l'approche de Bach (dans la lignée de Kuijken).
    Bientôt on jouera Paganini sur des cordes en boyau comme à son époque.
    C'est déjà le cas en ce qui concerne les sonates pour violon et guitare,beaucoup plus faciles que les caprices !
