The musical sense and sensitivity of Sir Adrian Boult made him a renowned accompanist, one who could accommodate the caprice and fantasy of soloists while maintaining a strong, forthright orchestral texture. Here he partners two brilliant but often-overlooked musicians in virtuosic Romantic concertos.
Mischa Elman was a pupil of the great pedagogue Leopold Auer, prized for his rich, sensuous and infinitely expressive tone; in his day he was a superstar of the violin, selling over two million records.
Zara Nelsova latterly became better-known as a teacher (she died in 2002), but her personality and command as an interpreter were considerable; she was especially renowned as a sympathetic performer of new music, working closely with composers such as Bloch, Barber and Hugh Wood.
* Unique coupling of these popular Romantic works
* Newly remastered for this issue
